What Is Past Life Regression?

Past Life Regression refers to the practice of traveling through your internal self to see events, situations and experiences that shape who you are today. Past Life Regression is not the same as regression in psychology, instead of reverting to a prior stage of development, you are traveling through your mental timeline. If you believe in reincarnation, this could be a prior life, and if you do not believe in reincarnation you could be traveling through different times in your life or through a metaphor to help you see the present more clearly.

What is Past Life Therapy?

Past Life Therapy uses past life regression as a means to answer specific questions related to, your values, ideas and what you need to know so you can experience a better present life. Instead of focusing on the events that made up who you were, Past Life Therapy asks your mind a question and hear the answer. A typical session might be as follows. A person has recognized that they experience a pattern all through their life, such as weight fluctuation, self sabotaging behavior, reoccurring interpersonal dynamics, etc. The individual will then come to the session and set the intention for the session “I want to know why I have a specific reoccurring dream.” or perhaps the intention is “why do i keep choosing the wrong kind of partner, friend, etc.” or “what do i need to know to feel (or manifest) more joy in my life?”

How can Past Life Therapy Help me?

Past Life Therapy is about finding the root of a problem. Our mind is very powerful and wants to protect us. Memories that people encounter might come from anytime in your past, childhood, infancy, or adult life when you were in that one job or lived in that one house. Those were all different “lives” because the way you moved through the world was physically different. Additionally, a deep memory may seem to come from a time in the deep past or the distant future, because our brains do not encode and store information the way a book, calendar or time line does. Our brain likes to tell itself stories and solve problems using allegories. When we use past Life Therapy, we free ourselves to re frame a problem in terms of a story or situation our brain can understand, analyze and make peace with. When we use Past Life Regression we give ourselves to view memories that profoundly affected us, understand and find closure so we can move on or gain insight into ourselves. Past Life Therapy can also help us excise mental “splinters”. Just like the body works to push a sliver or thorn out of our skin, the mind can work so hard to protect itself from the memory, that the memory can be forgotten, but the emotional “energy” that it contains can build up. Past life therapy and past life regression can pull that thorn out, giving the mind space and distance to process that memory and remove the emotional pressure. Past life therapy as a therapy is not as much about finding where you were before you were born, thought that can be a fun, past life therapy is about finding memories, seeing them in a safe space, or seeing the memory that the brain manufactures to help disguise the memory, releasing the “emotional pressure” so you can heal and be your best you!

What is a typical one to one or group session like?

Group sessions are less expensive and usually are not as emotionally intensive. The facilitator will suggest that the intention for the session is who was I, tell me who i was in a past life, when did i first meet (a specific person), or what do i most need to know right now. Each person will sit in a chair and close their eyes. The group will be led through a series of relaxation exercises that will facilitate imagery. During the session you will remain completely awake and completely in control of yourself. It will feel a lot like watching a movie in your head or remembering or imagining a story. At the end, if you choose to share, you can, and if you choose not to, that is also fine! Group sessions tend to be more for recreational past life experiences. Group sessions last a little over an hour. A One to one session is similar, however, the intention is usually different. If you are interested in gaining more insight, resolving an issue, uncovering information, understanding a recurring dream or nightmare, or perhaps understanding yourself, or learning how to manifest love, joy or your own personal greatness, then a one to one session may be of more value. Generally sessions begin with a little discussion as to the reasons for your desire to look back or look within, and some discussion about imagery that resonates for you. Then you are lead through some relaxation exercises and you begin the experience. The actual regression will last for approximately 45 minutes. After, you have the opportunity to reflect back what happened, discuss and digest your experiences. One to One sessions will be recorded and you receive a recording of your session.

What if I don’t believe in Reincarnation?

Whether or not your therapist believes in reincarnation is irrelevant. Whether YOU believe in reincarnation or not has no bearing on the meaning you can derive from Past Life Regression and Past LIfe Therapy. Every time you move, change jobs, change family situations, or make other significant changes in your life, these become chapters in your life’s story, in essence, these become a past life. If you believe that dreams offer an insight into your waking life, then by that same logic, past life therapy can offer you an allegory to explain or work through present life issues. For example, if the intention for the regression is to understand why a certain event keeps happening in your life, you give your mind space to create a story to help you understand your current situation. There are many Past Life Therapists and main stream counselors who do not believe in reincarnation but who do believe in Past Life Therapy, because the value is in the story your mind weaves for you, and what that story means to you.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is natural. Have you ever started to fall asleep? Have you ever been caught

daydreaming? Have you ever been driving and found yourself somewhere but you don’t

remember parts of the trip? This is all hypnosis.

Hypnosis is not like on television. No one can control you but you. No one can make you do anything you don’t want to, and hypnosis is not about giving up control. You are in control the whole time. Now that you know what hypnosis isn’t, lets talk about what it is. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness just like sleep. You are very relaxed and this relaxation allows the suggestions that you want, to go in. In her book Jan Sincero shows why when we make a conscious decision, to lose weight, for example, our subconscious mind pits our conscious desire to lose weight (or any suggestion) against the reason our subconscious is doing that thing (like emotional eating). The conscious mind loses in the battle between conscious and subconscious desires because the subconscious is very powerful. Hypnosis bypasses that struggle and gets the subconscious “on board” with your conscious goal and together, you win.

What are the risks?

Since you are not opening yourself up, you are not in spiritual risk. Since hypnosis is a completely normal and natural state that your body goes into many times on any given day, this is no more dangerous than drinking a glass of water or falling asleep. You could encounter an emotionally laden memory, but your therapist is trained to help you have emotional space between you and that event so that you can process and observe without reliving it. Because you have that emotional space, you can process the memory and gain perspective on it, releasing the pent up energy, safely.

What are the benefits?

Past Life Therapy is a tool just like nutrition therapy, art therapy, music therapy, or talk therapy is. Reincarnation is one way of thinking about past life therapy, and is equally valid to saying that everything that happens is that your mind creates a story to answer the question that you have asked it. In addition to gathering information about your current situation, side effects may include: Decreased Stress Improved memory Clarity Improvement in attention and attention span Better Sleep Ability to relax
